“If I could just crack Meta, I’d be able to scale.” It’s one of the most common things I hear from brand owners – and it’s almost always wrong.
In this episode, I make the case that the reason so many premium brands feel stuck isn’t a single broken thing they haven’t fixed yet. It’s that growth was never one lever to pull. It’s a system, and it tends to fail quietly in several small places at once.
I walk through three reasons the hunt for the one thing keeps failing: the small, silent leaks that hide behind healthy-looking numbers; the “wrong machine” problem, where a brand is marketed as though its buyer is further along than she really is (including the story of why I’d have gone broke marketing my first business, an early cloth nappy brand, the way Huggies markets nappies); and the most expensive thing in any business, which is not ad spend but the months poured into the wrong lever before anyone realises it’s the wrong one.
You’ll walk away with a better question to ask than “what’s the one thing” – and a practical way to find the one constraint that’s actually holding your brand back.
